7.0 Earthquake crumbles Haiti’s Port-au-Prince

Tuesday, Jan 12, 2010 at around 5pm, Haiti got it’s first taste of catastrophic disaster for this year. An earthquake of devastating proportions. Estimated death toll is to exceed 100,000. And they still haven’t recouped from the 4 Hurricannes in 2008.

Already the most impoverished country in the Western Hemisphere, this devastating earthquake will test their community spirit and will present challenges that no one in the world can imagine – on top of the challenges they already have daily to survive and live a decent life.

The global world’s response has been tremendous; the world rushing to save them. The Dominican Republic, it’s neighbor, was the first to send help, with every country including Iceland, and even businesses following thereafter and continually -sending enormous amounts of money or items of necessities.

I am very proud to inform that our our own Los Angeles Fire Department is one of the first Search and Rescue teams heading there with 72 men and dogs, also bringing searching equipment and medical supplies. The French have deployed their own Search and Rescue team, as well as other countries to follow suit.

Examples of donations include: The NY Yankees donating $500,000 to help, and of course the Pitt-Jolie Foundation donating $1M to Doctors Without Borders to assist with getting medical help to the Haitians.

Anderson Cooper – 360 is the first American reporter (CNN) on the ground in Haiti providing a minute by minute update account of what is going on.

With that said, many have already tweeted that he should stop reporting and just start helping. I tend to agree with the consensus on this.

He walks by people screaming for help burried in rubble, puts the microphone up to them so you can hear their screams, but doesn’t nothing to help them.

To me, that is atrocish reporting. There is a time and a day for reporting and there is a bigger time when lives are at stake you stop thinking selfishly about your ratings and your possible next new book and you just help the people you are reporting on! What is wrong with this man? Is his ego that big? We now see how much this man really cares.   I now will no longer give his blog or him the time of day.

US Congressional members are starting to form a bipartisan delegation that will be heading to Haiti quite shortly. As of yet, President Obama won’t be going, but Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (in Hawaii currently) has cancelled her trip to Australia, etc. and is returning to D.C. to handle this better.

Throw a tent over this circus!

One minute he is staying on Trump’s NY Estate, one minute he’s not. The next Trump is asking the city for “end of business day Wednesday” to get things worked out to prevent a criminal law suit against him, the next hour (so to speak) the tent is being dismantled. The next minute , Libya is asking if he could put his tent in Central Park! Are you kidding me?

Mind you – leather couches and other luxury items being toted away that were in the tent. Some ‘tent like living’ Ghadifi!

How can the Secret Service &  the city of NY not have the location of where Ghadifi was going to be spending his time while in the U.S., solidified before his plane hit the ground? I am baffled.

A man not really welcome in NY, due to the 1988 Pan Am bombing and the recent get out of prison free card for the mastermind behind it – how did the city not know where Ghadafi was going to be spending his nights while in NYC for the UN Assembly prior to this ridiculous mess?

If they come back later and state they were “responding to a citizen uproar and protest about this – well, is just not a good excuse. They should have thought of that before hand.

No wonder NYC is always prime target for terrorists. The terrorists are probably laughing reading this story floating around the internet!

It makes the city of NY and the Secret Service look like they are reactive, chasing-the-dog, disorganized, don’t-know-what-they-are-doing individuals. Not at all like authoritative, we-are-organized-and-on-top-of- everything government groups.

This is just pathetic!  I am embarrassed for the US, I am embarrassed for the citizens of NY and I am embarrassed as an American.

Sometimes the lack of communication on the most crucial situations amazes me, but moreover, if I was a NYC resident, it would scare me.

Now Trump leases out part of his NY estate to some ‘middle eastern authorities”.  Wouldn’t you think Trump would want to know who all leasing requestees are  - coming from that area – before they are allowed to sign on the line? I am not trying to be a racist here, but come on. For all his smarts, his vetting, he really just stumped me on this one.

That is his property. Anything that happens on it, anyone who is on it, it is by default, associated to his name. Even if he, perhaps, has clauses in the leasing agreement that exlude him from liability – it’s still associated to his name. And everything about Trump is his name.

With a very high threat of a terrorist attack in the NY area, due to recent activity with Zazi, and with all these global leaders there, this is the last thing I would imagine Secret Service and law enforcement officers would want to be scrambling around handling. It takes their attention away from the things they should be keeping their eyes out for. Things should have been set in place and Trump should have known the people of his town would not have looked favorably on this. What is Trump thinking?

But hey, I learned something about this. I had no idea Trump leased part of his land to middle eastern big wigs and well, hey, that could explain why he is always so easily able to build in that area. Talk about providing some perks to make a deal….
