About Me
I don’t know if there is really anything about me per se – my background, education or previous jobs that qualify me to run a blog on politics, but I guess that is half the reasons blogs exist – so you can write on topics that interest you.
I guess you can say a qualifier might be that I lived in the Northern VA/D.C. area off and on from Fall 04 – Spring 09, so that could possibly hold weight. 80% of my friends, acquaintances, business colleagues and previous employers were directly or indirectly involved in politics. Additionally, because of the environment you are surrounded in about 12-14 hours of your day, it is normal to absorb the many things that subconsciously or consciously become a part of your daily routine.
From the landmark buildings (Pentagon, White House, Capitol, etc.) you pass by on a daily or weekly basis, to knowing some of the individuals that work inside those buildings, to seeing the people in all 4 branches of our Military dressed in uniform walking around, to knowing some killed on 9/11 at the Pentagon, to walking through that 9/11 Pentagon Memorial, and asking silently again, why?
To knowing a few things even media doesn’t know because of your job (I have a TS Clearance), to spotting a few of the big wigs in restaurants you are at, to seeing the motorcades drive by your apartment for certain dignitaries who come into town, to catching the names of the books/magazines people are reading while riding the Metro or while they are (literally) walking around from Point A to Point B (this is an extremely intellectual area).
When in the early morning, Marine One flies by your window (I was on the 15th floor) and you know where the President is headed, to realizing, without intent, your weekly dialogue now incorporates a plethora of acronyms not commonly spoken before and is about 70% on political/government/military topics, to absorbing some of the information around you because you overhear parts of conversations, to engaging in or observing debates on a common day while you have lunch, to the 2 Presidential Elections I was there for, (Bush 43 ‘04 re-election, M v. O ‘08 Campaign leading to the Obama/Biden ‘09 Historical Inauguration), etc.
From the earliest hours in the morning when the gym is packed at 4am because most are in work by 5:30am, to knowing some of those same people need to cancel dinner/drinks later that night because they will be there until about 10pm because of something that happened around the globe.
The impact, energy, power of your environment is massive and you, by default, just become a part of it. The knowledge you have from all this isn’t spit back from the media, it’s all just understood, things you pick up on – and this is sometimes more insightful and powerful than what is in print.
When I first moved to D.C. from my laid-back beach town outside Los Angeles, CA, I vowed I would not be a part of ‘this’: what I call news junky/blackberry obsessed people whose environment and outlook is usually 80% negative, cynical, backstabbing, and self promoting. But it is inevitable, and I am now very glad I was more open minded. I was able to maintain who I was (although I might have gone back to a bit more Type A) and just keep all ‘this’ other stuff at bay.
I have enjoyed this immensely! My intelligence has been and is still challenged, my interests have expanded, the level of friends I have made are a higher caliber and taught me to think differently (although, still down to earth like me ) , I have teamed up with some excellent non profits and I am more actively involved in them and believe I am helping to make a difference world wide.
So, although this doesn’t provide any credentials, and by no means do I ever claim to be an expert in this area, I believe living by the Nations Capital is a profound experience and one that impacted me enough to generate an interest strong enough to start a political blog to seek out the right energy, interests, people to participate. However, the actual catalyst for this blog came from my business, BLC, which is international.
BLC works with international investments opportunities worldwide and my niche is the emerging areas (Panama, Colombia, Dubai, Africa, etc). World decisions & politics greatly affect the nations I work within and impact the results of my business tremendously. Since ‘02, my knowledge and awareness came from friend conversations, media, research/reads, my job. But since starting my business in Spring ‘07, my sources of information became more direct – my clients and colleagues living in all our nations. They were, and still are, providing first hand, street level to influential level knowledge. This information was real (no spin), timely, and reliable.
I believe no one can define or inform better:
1.the experiences government and military interaction and presence has on them
2.the trickling effects of the laws that are passed has on its citizens
3.by countless examples – the truth: that politics is the powerhouse of them all
than each individual, worldwide, that is living their life a certain way because of these 3 aspects (P/G/M). This spurred me to take all this interest to a new level, hence, TOWP.
Overall, I am a light-hearted, energetic, optimistic, savvy entrepreneurial individual who thrives on learning new things every day and is basically a knowledge seeker, with vast interests. I love my life and love what I do! I am extremely blessed in many ways! Whatever I do, which is selective, I delve into with my heart and all my energy. The same is with the people I circulate with – selective and don’t count numbers, everything is about quality to me.
Over the years I have participated in non profits, such as the Anthony Robbins Foundation when I was in AZ, and spread monetary donations to other non profits since I can remember and to date. I am now at the professional and personal level of doing more than that with the contacts and colleagues I have within my network and collaborating with them to try to make an impact on world politics to help improve the way we live in our worlds.
If you want to know more about my background and my business, BLC, you can visit my website: http://www.buildinglucrativeconnections.net
I look forward to the dialogue with all of you; sharing thoughts, having fun, challenging one another, brainstorming, and presenting workable ideas so each of us can have a part in making a difference with our voices and words to truly impact and make a positive change in politics worldwide.
Let’s Get Started!
